They say its a small world and to prove it I'm sure we've all had the experience of travelling by train to St Austell from Didcot only to lean out of the window at Dawlish Warren and see Uncle Eckie buying a packet of Spangles and the latest copy of Titbits. So imagine my surprise when I walked into Wantage's fantastic newish, music/guitar shop (The Music Gallery) looking for a gold plectrum and find out it is owned by none other than the guitarist from the very first band I was in - the mercurial guitar genius Dave Singleton. Small world or what!? And if that doesn't disturb Arthur C Clarke enough after we've passed pleasantries, having not spoken for 20 odd years, Dave proceeded to play 'Among the Boxes' for me from his in store stereo. He had downloaded the track from our website. I was genuinely touched. Touched, that after all this time, he was still following my meteoric rise to Clapham Junction. However, business is business and I'm currently in the process of having his shop shut down for download copyright infringement. We're up before the Wantage beak on Tuesday. I joke of course. I am in fact now buying all my gear (musical!) from him and he's stocking our fantastic new album. I'm not one for corporate sponsorship but the shop is The Music Gallery, 8 Newbury Street, Wantage - 01235 770353. Unlike most local music shops they do a range of proper top quality guitars (Fender Tele etc) plus everything else you'll ever need on all your musical journeys. NB - As I bought the last two gold plectrums will need to be ordered.
